Laboratory Testing
IN-HOUSE TESTING
Health Services provides the following rapid testing on-site:
- Rapid Mononucleosis finger stick
- Rapid Strep throat
- Rapid flu
- Rapid COVID antigen testing
- Rapid HIV fingerstick (3rd Generation)
- Urine testing
- Urine pregnancy testing
The majority of these tests have a $5-$10 fee associated.
SEND-OUT LABORATORY TESTING
Many blood tests,sexually transmitted infection testing, PAP smears, and other specimens can be collected at Health Services and are then sent to LabCorp. Occasionally, because of specific collection requirements, tests cannot be collected at Health Services and students will need to be directed to a specific laboratory to have them performed.
Labs sent outside of Health Services can be paid for with health insurance or out of pocket (charged directly to the student). These options will be discussed in detail before sending.
ORDERS FROM OUTSIDE PROVIDERS
Often providers outside of Skidmore Health Services will be managing students’ care and request blood tests. Most blood tests may be drawn in Health Services with an order from an outside provider. Please ask your current provider to fax a copy of lab orders with the ordering provider's signature to 518-580-5556. The orders will be reviewed to confirm that there is no special handling that prohibits us from collecting the test. We will call you to schedule an appointment or provide alternative locations. Labs will be sent to LabCorp for processing. It is the student's responsibility to know if their insurance company will cover the lab work at LabCorp. Results will be sent to the ordering provider only, not Health Services.
