Women’s soccer stayed unbeaten. Women’s volleyball earned its first victory. Women’s field hockey fell to a Top 20 team. Men’s soccer ground out a tie and suffered a close loss.

COVID-19 Updates

COVID-19 tests, masks, and guidelines for illness

‌While COVID-19 is now endemic, Skidmore continues to encourage all members of the community to monitor their health, review the CDC’s Respiratory Guidance, and stay home when sick. Masks and rapid tests will no longer be handed out at Campus Safety but are available on campus for purchase at the Skidmore Shop. The government will once again provide four free COVID tests per household beginning at the end of September. Employees are no longer required to report positive tests to Human Resources. College guidelines and FAQs may be found here and on the Health Services webpage.

Campus COVID-19 and flu vaccine clinics

‌Health Services is partnering with Adirondack Health and Wellness to offer updated COVID-19 vaccines and flu shots from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Multipurpose Room at the Williamson Sports Center on Friday, Sept. 20; Friday, Oct. 11; Wednesday, Oct. 16; and Friday, Nov. 8. Fall fitness class registration 

‌Register for fitness classes at the Williamson Sports Center starting the week of Sept. 16. Classes range from strength training to yoga, Pilates, and swimming. Contact Lacey Walsh for more information. 

College and University Endowments: Purpose and Practice 

‌Endowments provide a stable stream of revenue that reduce colleges’ dependence on revenues from tuition, room, and board. To enhance the Skidmore community’s understanding of endowments' importance, the College will host "College and University Endowments: Purpose and Practice," a virtual information session for students, faculty, and staff from 6 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 19. Representatives of the College’s Trustee Investment Committee, its external investment advisor, and the Finance and Administration Office will provide an overview of the endowment’s purpose, governance, policy guidelines, portfolio construction, historical performance, and annual spending. A registration link accessible to current students, faculty, and staff will be available in the coming days.

‌‘Between Two Kingdoms’ discussion with author 

‌Suleika Jaouad, author of the Class of 2028 summer reading “Between Two Kingdoms,” converses with members of Skidmore’s summer reading committee at 8 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 16, in Arthur Zankel Music Center. Due to limited seating, this event is for Skidmore community members only. Contact the Zankel box office during regular business hours to request a free ticket. 

Skidmore Encore faculty lecture series returns

‌The 44th annual Skidmore Encore faculty lecture series for local community members ages 55 and up returns to the Arthur Zankel Music Center on Tuesday mornings, Oct. 1 through Nov. 12. Employees are invited to attend without prior registration. The lecture schedule is available online; contact Coleen Stephenson with questions. 

‌Fourth Annual Lily Kishore Memorial Blood Drive 

‌Consider donating blood in memory of Lily Kishore '21 and supporting the American Red Cross and the women's lacrosse team from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 20, in the Intramural/Dance Gym. ‌Visible Darning Workshop 

‌Members of the Skidmore community are invited to participate in a Visible Darning Workshop at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 19, at the Tang. The event, led by Karen Stevens ’88, teaches participants how to darn holes in knitwear, turning old garments into functional and beautiful pieces. Registration is required. 

‌Swimming lessons for children

‌The swimming and diving team is offering children’s (4 years and older) swimming lessons on Thursdays, beginning Sept. 29. Sign-ups will be in person at the Williamson Sports Center lobby from 6 to 7 p.m., on Thursday, Sept. 12. Contact Jill Greenleaf by email or at ext. 5368 to learn more. 

‌An invitation to In It 9 

‌In It 9, a suite of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) programs designed to raise our cultural fluency and strengthen our community, will take place Sept. 20-25. ‌All-gender restroom map ‌

‌The campus all-gender restroom map has been updated and is available online and at various points around campus. All-gender restrooms are designed to be inclusive spaces accessible to everyone, regardless of gender identity. An updated campus map can also be accessed online.

Name policy website ‌

‌The College enables students, faculty, staff, and alumni to have a chosen name, which may be the same as, or different from, their legal name, for use within systems and communications maintained by the College’s Information Technology Office, except where the use of a legal name is required. Learn more about the Chosen Name Policy or submit a name request online. ‌ 

‌CompostMORE 

‌Show care for the planet by composting; compost leftovers in Murray-Aikins Dining Hall and the Spa, in residential spaces, and keep an eye out for green buckets in academic buildings. Refer to the Sustainability website for more information. 

‌Fall intramural registration 

‌Registration for co-ed volleyball (Monday and Wednesday 7 to 10 p.m. in the main gym) and 3 v 3 basketball (Tuesday and Thursday 7 to10 p.m. in the rec gym) is open through Thursday, Sept. 19. Leagues begin on Sept. 23 and run up to Thanksgiving Break. Students, faculty, and staff are invited to participate. Contact Elizabeth Ghilardi for more information. 

The Writing Center opens 

‌Students are invited to join trained student tutors for one-on-one consultations at every stage of the writing process. The Writing Center is open seven days a week. 

‌Seeking ‘hosts' for international students

‌Employees are invited to join the International Friendship Family Program, which pairs faculty and staff with an international student to help them feel welcomed. Submit an application or contact Chloe Jaleel with questions. 

‌Campus Safety move and interim fleet vehicle process 

‌Campus Safety has begun its relocation from Jonsson Tower to the first floor of the Annex. All fleet vehicles have been relocated to the Falstaff parking lot, where they will need to be picked up and dropped off. All vehicles should have a clearly marked parking spot. 

‌Tennis Court fall hours 

‌Semester hours are 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday and 2 to 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Contact Peter Fisher for more information. 

‌Bike for free with CDPHP Cycle

Register for CDPHP Cycle by downloading the CDPHP Cycle app and subscribing with a Skidmore email address; submit promo code "Skidmore," enter a credit card for incidentals. The program includes free access to pedal bikes, and e-bikes are free for the first 30 minutes (e-bikes parked outside of Cycle! racks are charged a $2 convenience fee). ‌Scribner Library is seeking donations for its annual book sale, supporting the annual library student worker awards. Donations should be dropped off at the Circulation Desk, to the attention of Patty Kolberg

‌Dining Services new additions 

‌South Forty Nut Bars, created by Josh Schroeter ’84, are coming to the Spa, Burgess Café, and the Atrium. The Spa deli also has new signature sandwiches: the Sadie Special, the Italian mix, and a southwestern chicken sandwich. Burgess Café’s new Botrista beverage system will make customized, made-to-order boba teas, milk teas, fruit smoothies, and refresher drinks. ‌Skidmore Weekly Bulletin submission procedure and schedule

Help reduce bulk emails by posting your announcement in Skidmore Weekly Bulletin, which is distributed to all students and employees. Submit announcements and events; lectures, panels, and other academic events; and faculty-staff achievements by completing the appropriate online form. Athletics News

Women’s tennis officially begins its 2024-25 season by hosting the two-day Battle of the Northway Tournament, starting Saturday, at the McCaffery-Wagman Tennis and Wellness Center outdoor courts. Five other Thoroughbred teams are competing on the road this week, including men’s golf. The golfers open their season at Middlebury College for the Duke Nelson Invitational on Saturday and Sunday.
